Calgary may not be Canada's largest city, but it is one of its most charming. Nestled between the prairies and the Rocky Mountains, this vibrant destination offers a unique blend of modern architecture, cowboy heritage, and natural beauty, making it perfect for all types of travelers. Here are my impressions of one day of my vacation in Calgary in summer 2025.

The international arrivals area at Calgary Airport has several great spots for taking photos.

Places to Visit in Calgary Downtown

Downtown Calgary is compact, walkable, and full of character. Although it doesn’t have a skyline dominated by skyscrapers, the buildings here are uniquely shaped and visually striking.

  • Stephen Avenue Walk: A pedestrian-only street lined with historic sandstone buildings, boutique shops, and lively restaurants.
  • Calgary Tower: For panoramic views of the city and the Rockies, step onto the glass floor of this iconic landmark.
  • Scotia Plaza: A hidden gem that connects to a mall with international brands and features a serene inner garden.
  • Peace Bridge: A bright red, Instagram-worthy bridge that spans the Bow River—perfect for sunset shots.
